Sims Grazing Bit
Sims grazing bit - with the unique feature of being mechnical! This bit is rarely seen these days and has a very specific usage. This bit works great on a horse with a sensitive poll. The poll pressure is very limited based on the mechanical function of the bit.
When the rein slack is taken up and the rider gains contact with the horse's mouth, the shanks and mouth will rotate putting pressure on the bars, chin (through the curb strap) and some on the tongue (the wide port mouth allows some tongue relief). But the independent purchase will remain steady, applying virtually no pressure to the poll. The curb strap is attached to the top ring of the shank while the headstall is attached to the independent part of the bit.
This bit is not show legal in most associations, check your rulebook(s).
