The loose shanks are swept back for more signal with less leverage.  This is a great everyday bit that can be a gentle and effective tool.  Brass bushings provide a smooth pinchless joint.  Hand engraved silver overlay.  Blue steeled shanks with a sweet iron high port mouth with copper bars.
